Iowa City anchors Veteran care for eastern Iowa through the Iowa City VA Health Care System, whose medical center on Highway 6 West is one of only four VA kidney transplant centers in the country and runs emergency services around the clock. A second VA clinic sits downtown in the Iowa City Federal Building, and Johnson County Veterans Affairs handles state and federal benefit claims from its office on South Dubuque Street. The VA health care system also hosts the National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic each September, a week-long adaptive golf and recreation program presented with DAV that draws Veterans from across the country and more than 400 VA and community volunteers.
