The university hosts the Pat Tillman Veterans Center — named for the former NFL player and Army Ranger who gave his life in Afghanistan — supporting one of the largest student-Veteran populations in the nation. Tempe Veterans are served by the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center, the Arizona Department of Veterans' Services, the Phoenix Vet Center, and active VFW and American Legion posts across Tempe and the Salt River Valley.
