Its military heritage runs deep, from the WWII Fort Miles coastal defenses at Cape Henlopen State Park to Dover Air Force Base to the north. The area is served by the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs, the Sussex County Veterans Affairs office, and active VFW and American Legion posts across the county.
