The city is home to Hunter Army Airfield — the Army's longest runway and an aviation hub supporting the 3rd Infantry Division (the "Marne Division") at Fort Stewart just south. Veterans across Chatham County are served by the Savannah VA CBOC (Charleston VA Health Care System), the Georgia Department of Veterans Service, and the Chatham County Veterans Council. The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force in Pooler honors WWII aviators, and active VFW and American Legion posts serve Veterans across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry region.
