Myrtle Beach Air Force Base flew here until it closed in 1993, and the land it sat on is now The Market Common — a neighborhood built on the old runways, with the General Robert H. Reed Recreation Center still standing at its center. The Myrtle Beach VA Clinic opened on Airpark Drive in 2021 and serves veterans across Horry County and the surrounding Grand Strand.
