Grand Island is the seat of Hall County and the anchor of central Nebraska's Veteran community, home to the Grand Island VA Medical Center on North Broadwell Avenue — part of the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System — which offers primary and mental health care, a Community Living Center, and a well-known recreation and creative arts therapy program. The city is served by the Hall County Veterans Service Office and the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs, with active American Legion, VFW, and United Veterans Club posts, and it hosts the Nebraska State Fair each summer at Fonner Park.
