About This Initiative

Angel Fire sits high in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Colfax County, and it carries a place in Vietnam veterans' history out of all proportion to its size. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial here was begun by Victor and Jeanne Westphall in memory of their son David, a Marine first lieutenant killed with fifteen of his unit in an ambush in May 1968. They dedicated the Peace and Brotherhood Chapel in 1971, years before the memorial in Washington, and it is widely recognized as the first major memorial to Vietnam veterans in the United States. Congress designated it a Vietnam Veterans National Memorial in 1987. The grounds hold the chapel, a visitor center and a UH-1 Huey, and the state observes Veterans Day here each November 11.

This site is provided by Di Nola Consulting to assist Military Service Members, Veterans, and Military Spouses in discovering events, resources, opportunities, and their community throughout Angel Fire, Eagle Nest, Raton and Colfax County.

Whether you're transitioning out of service, looking for career opportunities, seeking health and wellness support, or simply want to connect with your community, you'll find it here.
