Alexandria sits at the geographic heart of Louisiana, where the Red River divides it from Pineville. Central Louisiana has carried a military presence for generations — from the Louisiana Maneuvers that trained a generation of World War II commanders across these parishes, to Esler Field and the Louisiana National Guard units based here today. Cenla Veterans are served by the Alexandria VA Health Care System in Pineville, the Alexandria Vet Center, and a dense network of American Legion and VFW posts, along with Veteran-led nonprofits running equine therapy, retreats, and peer support across Rapides and the surrounding parishes.
