The city is home to Alabaster Veterans Park — a 50-acre municipal recreation complex named in honor of those who served — and a strong Shelby County Veteran community. Service Members and Veterans are served by the Birmingham VA Health Care System, the Shelby County Veterans Affairs Office in Columbiana, the Alabama National Guard, the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs, and active VFW and American Legion posts across Shelby County and the south-Birmingham metro.
